You will talk through your symptoms and any relevant health information, then your ears will be checked to see if wax build-up is likely. If removal is suitable, it will be carried out using an appropriate method for you. You will leave with clear advice on aftercare, what to expect, and what to do if symptoms continue.

How to prepare for your ear wax removal.
Softening the wax
If advised by our pharmacy team, use medical-grade olive oil ear drops or spray for 3–5 days before your appointment to soften the wax.
- Lie with the affected ear facing upwards.
- Apply 2–3 drops.
- Remain on your side for 5–10 minutes.
- Wipe away any excess oil.
Always follow the product instructions and advice from your pharmacist.
Please tell us
Please tell us before your appointment if you have:
- A perforated eardrum or grommets
- Previous ear surgery
- An ear infection, pain, discharge or bleeding
- Significant dizziness or vertigo
- Sudden or rapidly worsening hearing loss
- Previous difficulties with ear procedures
You may require an individual assessment or alternative treatment.
Please do not
- Do not put cotton buds, fingers, ear candles or other objects into your ears.
- Do not use ear drops without professional advice if you have a perforated eardrum, grommets or have previously had ear surgery.
